Watch: Charlie Dark on Theo Parrish

A deep dive into the Detroit legend.

“We’re here today under the banner of Theo Parrish, DJ, selector, producer and founder of Detroit’s Sound Signature label, known for long, eclectic sets. We’ll explore the music he releases, the tracks you hear in his sessions, his philosophy and approach, and the re-edits he’s revered for. We’re just connecting the dots between what he does, who came before him, and who’s coming after. I promise it won’t feel like school.”

DJ, writer and Run Dem Crew founder Charlie Dark MBE enters The Listening Room at 180 Studios for a deep dive into the work and influence of Theo Parrish.

Recorded on Devon Turnbull’s sound system, the session combines talk and listening, as Dark plays through Parrish originals, Sound Signature releases, key edits and formative influences. Along the way, he unpacks Parrish’s approach to long sets, “journey records”, MPC-driven production, and the role of a DJ in all its complexities.

Touching on everything from Plastic People memories to cheap-bin discoveries and 16-minute free jazz odysseys, the session offers an entry point into Parrish’s universe and a practical lesson in DJ philosophy.
