Tash LC explores the back catalogue of the Lisbon label.

DJ, broadcaster and Listening Room resident Tash LC’s latest session at 180 Studios is an ode to Príncipe Discos, the Lisbon record label she names as her favourite in the world.

Starting from her introduction to the label back in 2015 via the percussive-driven productions of DJ Marfox, the session explores Príncipe and its roster of producers with origins in Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, São Tomé and Príncipe, and Angola.

"The thing that gets me so much with Príncipe and with batida is you can hear the frustration in these rhythms, and the anger, and there's something that's being let out,” Tash explains. “There's a soulfulness within this."

Playing essentials cuts from Nídia, Babaz Fox and many more, Tash grants an insight into one of the most interesting, exciting record labels operating right now.

Watch the session above and find the Listening Room archive here.
