Watch a 45 second overview of Volcano Extravaganza 2015 – Europe’s most explosive festival

Set on the mystical island of Stromboli, overshadowed by a fiery volcano and circled by black sand, Volcano Extravaganza might just be Europe’s most explosive arts and musical festival.

For this year’s programme, The Vinyl Factory invited legendary cosmic disco DJ Danielle Baldelli to headline an intimate party under the stars. Staged in an open-air amphitheatre, built into the rocks and looking out to the Tyrrhenian Sea, Baldelli played a heady and hypnotic five hour set.

Covering everything from European electronica and Philly disco to reggae and wrong-speed African folk, keep your eyes peeled for the video of (part of) that set. Also on the horizon is a mini-doc on Baldelli and his renowned residency at Cosmic nightclub.

This year’s festival was inspired by the phenomenon of the total solar eclipse and formed around curator Milovan Farronato’s interpretation of the mysterious prophetic manuscript 
In Favour of a Total Eclipse. Performances were set in obscured locations, under the peak of a meteor shower, making for a truly cosmic experience.

Alongside Baldelli, Mathilde Rosier presented a mesmerising dance performance by the crater of the volcano, while Raphael Hefti engaged with the natural landscape to perform live Thermit welding on the darkest shores of Stromboli. Adriano Costa, Thomas Zipp and Kembra Phaefler were also on the bill, contributing to a two week programme of exciting projects in unforeseeable locations and hidden spots on the volcanic island.
