Electronic duo ignite Whitechapel Gallery with immersive A/V show.

Illuminated in sparks, Ryoji Ikeda and Carsten Nicolai treated an intimate audience of 150 to an awesome show of digital virtuosity last month as part of Whitechapel Gallery and The Vinyl Factory’s Music For Museums series.

Consummate manipulators of sound and spectacle – from the most minute digital micro-structures to visceral swells of drone-like sine waves – the pair have collaborated together as cyclo. since 2000, but opportunities to witness their performances together are rare.

Capping a year that has seen both hold major exhibitions at The Vinyl Factory’s Brewer Street Car Park, we captured and condensed the energy of the 45-minute performance into this short film, offering an unprecedented look at two of electronic music’s most important technicians at work.
