Do androids dream of electronic beats?

The most talked about sequel of recent years is almost here. With Blade Runner 2049 about to explode onto cinema screens around the world, our friends over at FACT have released a superb new documentary investigating the impact of the original film and its iconic Vangelis score on a generation of electronic musicians.

Featuring input from across the musical spectrum, from synth pop legend Gary Numan and trip-hop king Tricky, to contemporary producers like Ikonika and Hans Berg, the doc also features Blade Runner 2049 director Denis Villeneuve, who sees the soundtrack as the perfect counterpoint to the film’s dystopian vision. “It sets an atmosphere that’s delicate and powerful,” he says. “It’s a piece of art that’s at perfect equilibrium, aesthetically and musically.”

Watch the documentary in full below and read Fact’s in-depth cover feature here.
