Soho’s annual vinyl street party is shelved.

The street party that has taken over Soho on Record Store Day in previous years will not take place this year, with organisers citing “roadworks in the area” as the cause.

One of the event’s saving graces in recent years, with a live stage on Berwick Street and a number of sound systems outside local shops creating a carnival atmosphere, the street party was also responsible for driving huge footfall to local shops selling limited edition releases on the day.

A spokeswoman for Sister PR, which represents Berwick Street on behalf of landlords Shaftesbury, said: “There is not going to be a music festival on this year. Due to roadworks in the area, it won’t be able to go ahead.”

While much of the festivities will doubtless continue regardless, with all shops open and trading the limited editions as usual, there will be nothing by way of sanctioned live music on street level this time around. [via West End Extra]

That said, our friends at Phonica will have a full day of DJs, live acts and surprises. No line-up yet so watch this space and make sure you’re first in line. If last year was anything to go by, this won’t be one to miss.

Record Store Day is due to take place on Saturday 16th April, with a whole load of desirable and not so desirable limited edition records on offer. See the full list here.
