Oliveros recorded The Wanderer in 1982 for the Springfield Accordion Orchestra, performing it alongside twenty accordions, two bass accordions, and five percussionist.

The album is accompanied by a short note, which reads as follows:

“Sustain a tone or sound until any desire to change it disappears. When there is no longer any desire to change the tone or sound, then change it.”

Originally released in 1984, Important Records’ release marks the album’s first-ever vinyl reissue.
