Eclectic Method hightail through the history of sampling in 3 minutes.

Charting the chronological history of sampling, Eclectic Method have successfully managed to cut and paste a good representation of everything between The Beatles’ use of the Mellotron in the 60’s and Beastie Boys’ “Slow and Low” in what is a dexterous homage to the bedrock of hip hop culture. The whistlestop A-Z (Apache to Zapp?) runs through the most iconic beats and breaks and the records from which they were taken, some of which formed the basis of huge swathes of hip hop and dance music history on their own.

The video also snugly coincides with a 40th anniversary reissue of The Incredible Bongo Band’s Bongo Rock, due on – you guessed it – Mr Bongo, back on vinyl for the first time since its release in 1973. The record is home to “Apache”, one of the most sampled tracks in history, latterly described by Kool Herc as “the national anthem of hip-hop” and this anniversary edition is pressed on 180 gram vinyl with a mirror card sleeve, replicating the highly-sought after original to a tee.
