"We're a terrible business; we're all about the music": Eglo Records' Alexander Nut and Fatima talk vinyl, D'Angelo and being professional

Label boss Alexander Nut joins sensational RnB singer Fatima in the staircase to tell the story of Eglo Records, celebrating their 4th birthday this year with a retrospective compilation.

Home to the likes of Floating Points, FunkinEven and Fatima, Eglo Records has grown into itself over the last four years. And “ome” certainly seems like a good way to describe a label that has seen close friendships blossom – as confirmed by Fatima’s description of how she made her first recording for the label while staying with FunkinEven at his mum’s house over Christmas a few years back.

Defined by its releases rather than a recognisable genre (broadly speaking under the remit of funk, soul, hip hop, jazz, and house), Eglo has, like every small label, struggled to balance the books, and with a passion for releasing on vinyl, they’ve not made life easy for themselves. We spoke to Alexander Nut about keeping the label afloat, while Fatima shares some of her favourite records released on Eglo so far.
