Trevor Jackson to curate audio-visual evening at ICA featuring Tom Furse of The Horrors, Luke Abbott and Dave I.D

Artist and DJ Trevor Jackson draws on Richard Hamilton’s 1974 piece Palindrome to inspire multi-dimensional installation.

In the first of series of events co-hosted by online radio station NTS at the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) entitled Parallel Visions, Trevor Jackson will curate an evening of performances located at the intersection of art and music. Palindrome, inspired by British pop art maverick Richard Hamilton’s 1974 work of the same name, will take the form of an installation and “multidimensional experience”, described by Jackson as “a totally mirrored performance space”, with mirrored floor, ceiling and walls.

As Jackson explains, the line-up of young artists represent “intelligent creative british music” and were chosen to perform within the installation for their shared an affinity with Hamilton’s work:

“Tom Furse from The Horrors mentioned to me he always felt J Dilla’s music reminded him of Hamilton’s visual collage work and was eager to be involved,” says Jackson, while producer Luke Abbott, who was first released on Jackson’s own Output Recordings label “will be performing a modular synth set which within the disorientating space should be something special.” Dave.I.D.’s intense industrial jams taken from his forthcoming ‘Zulu Jam’ EP will round off the evening.

Speaking about his motivations for hosting the event, Jackson says: “For me it’s very important events like this happen at venues like the ICA, helping forge the bonds between underground music & art something that have become increasingly fragmented over the past couple of decades. The connections and cross fertilisation of all the elements that make up contemporary culture
is something that’s fundamental to my work.”

This cross-fertilisation was in evidence last year as Jackson remixed Dinos Chapman’s “Luftbobler” on his EP LUV2H8, released by The Vinyl Factory, before supporting the artist at the premier of his audio-visual show at London’s Fabric in October.
