VF releases Isaiah Collier live at Devon Turnbull's Listening Room on vinyl
A special one-off improvisation from Isaiah Collier and Tim Regis.
Saxophonist, composer, and activist Isaiah Collier has teamed up with drummer Tim Regis for a new vinyl-only live recording, captured in Devon Turnbull’s Hi-Fi Listening Room Dream No.1 at 180 Studios, London.
The limited 500-copy pressing, released in collaboration with The Vinyl Factory, is now available for pre-order ahead of its September 24 release.
Recorded on January 30, 2025, the 26-minute performance unfolds across three tracks, pressed on heavyweight 180-gram black vinyl and housed in a colour sleeve featuring exclusive session photography. Listen below.
Engineered by Jamie Harley and produced by Sonny Daze, the duo’s improvisation was recorded direct-to-tape with live space echo effects woven into the final mix.
"This recording is an interesting dichotomy between familiarity and unknowns,” explains Collier, “A new collaboration invites a new experience, and openly that’s what we did. Just a conversation between two kindred spirits in the multiverse of sound where the infinite and inspiration dance seamlessly.”
Regis adds, “Myself on drums and Isaiah on saxophone, we sonically explored — trading roles, sharing silences, colliding in chaos, and finding unplanned coherence. Nothing was planned, yet everything was intentional. I hope it healed and brought clarity to those who listened.”
The project originated from Collier’s introduction to Devon Turnbull through his producer, Sonny Daze, in 2021. Their shared love of deep listening spaces sparked a series of collaborations across OJAS Listening Rooms in Chelsea, Brooklyn, and San Francisco, ultimately culminating in this London session.
Chicago-born Collier, hailed by DownBeat as “The Next Sax Giant,” has built his reputation through fearless improvisation and collaborations with Kahil El’Zabar, Marshall Allen, and Makaya McCraven, while Regis, first connecting with Collier in New York in 2020, has become a regular on his final tour with The Chosen Few.
